5 Reasons Why Passenger Planes Don’t Have Parachutes

There is a scene in the classic 90s sitcom Father Ted where they are on a plane running out of fuel. Unfortunately, there are only two parachutes, so they have to decide who gets them.

This is not realistic at all. Commercial planes do not have parachutes.

Why not?

Here are five important reasons.

1. Most airplane mishaps occur during takeoff or landing

Takeoff and landing are the most difficult parts of any flight. But during these, the plane is too low for a parachute to deploy safely. It is also travelling too fast.

2. Breathable oxygen and temperature

When people skydive, they usually jump from somewhere between 10,000 and 13,000 feet.
