5 Things You Are Not Allowed to Do On British Television
British TV channels have certain rules they must abide by. This dates back to when there were only a few channels being watched by millions of viewers. However, some shows do break these rules.
1. Hypnotise the audience
Stage hypnotists must be licensed, and hypnotising television viewers is banned. This dates back to when people used to be scared of hypnosis. The regulators were worried that strange things might happen if people watching at home came under the hypnotist’s spell. And there’s always the chance that somebody, somewhere, will believe that it has caused them harm.
You can get away with it if you’re sneaky, as Derren Brown did with his show The Events: How to Control the Nation. He did do some hypnosis during this, but he didn’t call it hypnosis.
