9 Out of 10 of Medium’s Recent Trending Stories Are Self-Published
Yet more proof that publications are no longer necessary on Medium
If you thought that publications were necessary to trend on Medium, consider this your wake-up call. This follows from my recent study into Medium publications.
I recently saw this from the Medium Creators team:
I was interested in taking a look at those trending stories. Not to read them but to see how many of them are published in publications.
How many are?
A grand total of ONE.
Yes, that’s right, only one of the stories was published in a publication. And that publication, Startup Stash, has about 650 followers.
The other NINE trending stories are all self-published.
Now, granted, several of those are from writers with large followings. But how did they get so many followers? Probably the same reason their recent stories are trending — because they write about interesting things…
