I do like the idea of UBI. It makes so much sense as we move forward and jobs are replaced by technology. Once all vehicles are self-driving, all factory staff are robots, and almost all shopping is done online, it doesn't make sense any more for a person's ability to survive to be dependent on their ability to help a large corporation turn a profit.
But if we, as humans, take too much longer failing to figure out the best way through this, eventually AI will do it for us. And maybe that's the point. Maybe, as a collective species, we are too stupid to get our shit together. Maybe our role is to create intelligent technology that can improve itself and can do all the clever thinking for us from that point onwards.
