Ahh, so he's gaming the system by making sure he stays just within the rules. Got it. Well, it's worth a try if you think it will work and you don't mind doing it.
I can only speak for myself, but personally I am done with trying to game Medium to make money from it. Even when when I was on Medium all day most days, the most I ever earned in a month was $400. But I didn't follow thousands of people because I only wanted to follow people I was actually interested in following.
In recent months, I've realised that when I'm not doing my writing work, I usually prefer to get my content in video or podcast form. And if I ever want to have fun interacting with with people online, Reddit can be awesome. I don't know if you've ever hung out on Reddit, but there are a lot of hilarious and interesting people on there. No financial incentive. Just people being interesting and funny purely for upvotes. I don't spend a huge amount of time on there, but I'm rarely disappointed when I do. Whereas I sometimes found Medium disappointing. Not always, but it sometimes felt like an uphill struggle to find stuff I genuinly found captivating or entertaining.
I haven't been a member of Netflix for a few years now. I cancelled it one summer because I wanted to be outside more, and didn't get around to renewing it. These days, I can watch Channel 4 and YouTube with my ad blocker and also watch BBC iPlayer.
