Although I have a smartphone, I try to keep it as stupid as possible. I don't have apps like Facebook or Twitter on it. I disabled the news app. All my apps have notifications turned off.

Plus, I have it set to silent mode 99% of the time. This is great for me because it means I never get disturbed by spontaneous phone calls anymore. I'm literally not contactable by phone unless it's pre-arranged.

The worst thing is if you're talking to somebody in person and their phone rings and they insist on answering it. It's so infuriating!

Sometimes I don't take my phone when I go out. I do if I go out for a long time. But if I'm just going for a short local walk, sometimes I won't bother taking it.
