Argh, Byron Katie! I bought her book "Loving What Is". I really wanted to like it, because I liked a few short videos I'd seen her in. But I couldn't finish it.
I tried doing the main exercise in the book. This is where you write down the main things that are causing you unhappiness. Then you turn them around and write the opposite. You're then supposed to try to convince yourelf that you believe the opposite of what you really believe.
BULLSHIT!
This is a form of mental gymnastics where you try to suppress what you really think and feel. It's far better to try to fully understand what is upsetting you, then try to see if there are ways you can fix them. Or if you can't fix them, maybe you can come to fully understand and accept them.
But trying to convince yourself that something that upsets you actually makes you happy? That's just absolute nonsense!
