By referring to him as "mother", weren't they just referring to his biological sex, which is still female? If we're going to separate gender from biological sex, we can still say that a transman is female in terms of sex, can't we?
But there is a biological problem with transmen having babies. As pelvic psysotherapist Elaine Miller says in this video, taking testosterone over a long period puts a biological female body into a menopause-like state. In such a situation, the uterus is not in an ideal state for having a baby.
