Why aren’t more people using emojis in their stories?

If the purpose of a title is to grab people’s attention, why not use emojis?

Is it because we’re old-school writing purists? Should writing only contain words? If so, why are we using images?

I can’t find anything in the Medium Rules about emojis. I also don’t recall seeing it forbidden in any of the publication rules I’ve read.

So why not?

Of course, excessive emoji use will just distract from the words. But too much of anything can be a bad thing. The word “the” is essential, but if I just write “the the the the the” all the time, you’re going to think I’ve had a stroke or lost my mind.

If you use the word “fuck” too much it gets old too. Fuck this, fuck that. Yeah, boring! Got anything new to say?

So, to anyone who is completely anti-emojis, I say this:

🖕

But I also say:

😂

Because, you know, we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously all the time. 😀

UPDATE: After publishing, I realised that it doesn’t show the emoji colours in the title. Upon reflection, I suppose that would be too
