Facebook is awful. I've come and gone from it multiple times over the years. These days, I am back on Facebook but use it the absolute minimum. I don't have any photos of me on there (not even a profile photo), I don't post any personal updates, I don't add people who aren't real friends as "friends", I don't have the app on my phone, and I don't view anybody's status updates because I have a browser plugin called News Feed Eradicator which hides them. I literally just use it for an improv group I belong to, and for private messages. That's it. The rest of Facebook's functions can just piss off.
