Good questions, thank you. I suppose the answers could be different for each person. In my case, because I had made improvements in myself, I was keen to help others see similar improvements. I don't like it when things go wrong. If I see a potential solution to something, I want to try to fix it. But also, helping other people can make me feel useful.
But I think the key thing here is that I can still help other people, I just need to make sure it's people who are also able to help themselves. I don't want to be doing all the work. Perhaps the best thing is to merely offer a bit of guidance, then let the other person do the actual work. It's like: here's a life raft, but you're going to have to actually pull yourself out of the water.
