Haha, I don't come on here too often these days, but I took a sneak peak on your profile just out of curiosity. I suspected this article might have been about me. 😀
Actually, my chatbot testing work is taking up most of my work time now. It pays more than the writing work. I'm kind of hoping this job will see me through until generative AI is so good that it completely takes over. Or if this particular job ends at some point, hopefully it will lead to other work in the AI field.
Just to point out another bit you didn't quite get right in your article:
I didn't actually spend all that many months full-time writing for Medium. It was about 4 or 5 months, something like that, and then I realised the money wasn't increasing. My earnings were pretty level during the time I was full-time. I switched my focus to trying to find work on Upwork before my Medium earnings took a huge dive. I was already focused much more on Upwork by the time my earnings really crashed down low.
My story isn't sad at all. My time on Medium gave me a wonderful opportunity to practice my writing, which made me a better writer once I went to look for writing work on Upwork. I enjoyed being on Medium, but it was the right time for me to switch focus when I did. In hindsight, it wasn't really a case of being defeated. It was merely the sensible decision to make under the circumstances. Then my writing work on Upwork eventually led to my AI testing work, which is awesome!
I now spend my work time working on an interesting project, earning more money than I did through any writing work. When I'm not doing that, I'm enjoying life, enjoying being outside and doing other things. It's not a tale of woe at all.
No regrets.
