You make an interesting point about the distribution of views and earnings. I hadn't thought about it before, but you could be right. Maybe Medium has realised that new writers need to be encouraged by getting early success. The trade-off is that the top writers lose some income. But the thing is, it will be easier for those top writers to pull in some additional income from elsewhere anyway. For example, if Tim Denning suddenly lost 90% of his earnings, he's got a big enough profile to be able to get other people to pay him for his writing.
