I agree, but the problem is not the smartphone itself but the social media apps. If nobody had social media apps on their phones, that would solve most of the problem.
I have a smartphone, but in comparison to most people I hardly use it. I have no social media apps on it, no notifications, and it's on Do Not Disturb mode all the time. So, it never makes a sound, not even for phone calls.
When I'm out, I mainly use it to check the time. Occasionally I will take a photo with it. I also find the Notes and Calendar apps useful to stay organised. So I mainly use it as a personal organiser. Oh, and I use it to listen to podcasts. So it's basically a watch, personal organiser, and an MP3 player.
Oh, one other thing, I have some workout apps for when I do my morning exercises.
Oh yeah, and one more "one other thing". I find Google Maps useful as a Sat Nav. But I don't use that all the time. Only when I'm somewhere I am not familiar with, like when I had to go to my aunt's funeral in London.
But no, I refuse to have apps on it that I might get addicted to. And I refuse to have it randomly beep at me. Social media phone apps were the worst thing ever invented.
