I understand what you mean, particularly with the special interests.

That self-defined definition of disabled could be a slippery slope, though. Some people can lack insight into how their behaviour affects others. Even a severely autistic person might be very happy in the right situation, with the best support. But that doesn't mean they're not disabled.

With special interests, I suppose it's only a problem if it totally dominates your life and you can't possibly not do it. For example, if I said you're not allowed to indulge your favourite special interest for a week, would you be able to cope?
