The biggest problems I always had were at work and school. Trying to understand other people sometimes took so much mental energy that it made actually doing my work more difficult than it needed to be. And whenever I didn't have the energy to try to fit in with other people, I made social mistakes. I would misunderstand people or say socially embarrassing things.
When I later worked for a company that had a better understanding of autism, I got on a lot better. Then when I transitioned to working more from home I felt like that suited me even more.
Autism is a disability when viewed from a non-autistic perspective. But that's a bit like saying that being only able to speak French makes someone disabled at speaking English. Or it's like saying that a fish is disabled because it can't fly like a bird.
