It just goes to show much work it is running a popular publication. And the problem with is being shortform is that they are quick to write so the submissions will come in like an avalanche. It's no wonder they were struggling.
And I hated how they sometimes rejected pieces without even notifying me. So, they were so busy they didn't even have time for common courtesy.
An alternative is to self-publish shortform content with the tag "Short Form". It might not get quite as many views as if it was published in a publication, but you won't have to wait for it to be approved. That could be better for shortform content anyway, because they are more like quick social media posts rather than full articles. You won't want to be waiting for a day or two for something that only took you a few minutes to write.
