Just out of curiosity, is there a specific reason the diagnosis would be beneficial to you? Of course, you don't have to answer if you don't want to. I'm just interested. Is it for your own wellbeing or for some practical purpose such as employment.
The reason, I ask is because I suspected I was on the spectrum for years, and did various online tests that suggested I was. But it was only when I the Jobcentre questioned why I had such a bad track record with employment, and that I was resistent to certain types of jobs, that they started asked questions. Then I had a reason to seek assessment. At first, my doctor was resistent because he thought having a label wouldn't benefit me. But it turned that it did, because it got me treated differently by the Jobcentre and I got extra help which got me into a job with an autism-friendly company.
But if it hadn't have been for that, I might not have bothered. And as the years have gone past since then, I've felt myself drifting a bit away from that label. Because I'm on the mild end, I go under the radar, and many people who meet me probably don't realise. These days, I tend to think more in terms of the specific difficulties I have, such as sensory issues.
And also, I went through a phase shortly ater my diagnosis of being part of Aspergers social groups, but in the end that didn't work. I found that I didn't get on with most of them. I realised that being on the spectrum isn't enough to have in common with people.
