My Hilariously Deranged Idea for a New TV Series: Nathaniel Cuthbert-Smythe’s Country Estate Mansions
I originally wrote this a while back about one of my friends. It seemed funnier when it was about someone I knew. Unfortunately, hardly anyone read it, so now I have decided to repurpose it and change the name to a made-up one.
Nathaniel Cuthbert-Smythe’s Country Estate Mansions
Dapper Englishman Nathaniel Cuthbert-Smythe goes around various National Trust properties and other country estate mansions in southern England. He comments on the art and architecture in a similar style to Brian Sewell but without quite such a posh accent. The series starts off earnestly and seriously but gets progressively weirder with each episode.
Episode 1 sees Nathaniel striding leisurely around Dyrham Park in South Gloucestershire. Here he enthusiastically appreciates the large ancient paintings hanging in the grand rooms, stands in awe at the magnificent structure of the building, takes in the fresh air and beautiful flowers of the wonderful gardens, and has tea in the cafe while chatting amiably with staff and other guests.
