"My question to you is, what makes you think a God would make a perfect species?"

Why wouldn't he? If he is all good, why would he design things so that suffering is possible?

"When humans design things, do they start perfect or does it take thousands of years to perfect?"

But God is not human. He's perfect and has been around forever. Why would the development timescale needed for humans apply to God?

"And what makes you think our definition of perfect creation matches anything God has done? Our notion of good and bad may not necessarily be anything to God. Death, war, and poverty are called bad by humans but in the end, are just “things” that happen. And unfortunately, cause suffering."

Why would God create things that he considers perfect but we don't?
