On the whole, these are good changes. The only possible downside to the referral program is that it might cause some people to sign up just to refer other people. So, rather than bothering to write, they'll just spam their affiliate link everywhere they can. Or have Medium already thought of that and are going to make sure you have to be regularly writing content to qualify for referral money?
