Out of my top 5 highest earning stories so far this month, 3 of them were self-published.

But having said that, some publications seem to have a higher rate of being chosen for further distribution. For example, all of the stories I've submitted to The Riff publication have all been chosen for further distribution.

At the moment I am experimenting a bit. I submit some stories to publications and self-publish others. I have also been thinning out my list of publications, removing myself from some which don't look too active. A few also removed me recently because I clashed with the owners. One of those was entirely my own fault, though, and I've realised what I could have done better.
