Podcasts Are a Much Better Way Than Books to Consume Long-Form Content

Listening while walking is far better for you than sitting and reading

Confession: I hardly ever read books anymore.

I still have unread books I was given for Christmas 2020. I don’t know when I’ll get round to reading them.

I used to read books a bit more. But even back then, I was mainly reading in bed, and after about 15 minutes I’d be falling asleep. So it would take me a while to get through a book.

These days I tend to prefer podcasts for long-form content. Podcasts and audiobooks are a much better way to get deeply into a topic. You can listen to them while out walking.

When I’m not working or sleeping, I prefer to be outside, if the weather’s okay. A long, in-depth podcast can be the perfect accompaniment to an afternoon walk.

And when I’m in bed, these days I prefer to either watch a comedy video or listen to a comedy podcast.

I do read, but it’s mostly bite-sized online articles. This is perfect because that’s also what I like writing. And I like being able to respond and have people respond to me. Medium is ideal for that.
