Should Parents Have to Pass a Test to Qualify to Raise Children?

People have to pass tests to do other important things, so why not this too?

I recently read Susie Kearley’s short piece in Unpopular Opinions about parenting:

Pregnancy Should Be Banned Until All Children Have Loving Homes

She makes a valid point that people should have to pass a test before getting pregnant.

It makes sense, and here’s why:

People need to pass tests to do other important things. For example:

• Driving a car. If somebody doesn’t know how to drive a car properly, they are likely to crash, run people over, or get in other people’s way.
• Medical surgery. You can’t become a surgeon until you’ve done the proper training and proved you’re capable. Imagine if untrained wannabe surgeons just started operating on people. It would be horrific!
• Police. Imagine somebody trying to be a police officer without training in law or dealing with difficult situations. They might go…
