MEDITATION
Should You Meditate Before Bed?
The answer depends on what type of meditation you are doing
Should you meditate before bed?
You’re probably expecting the answer to be “yes”. Meditation is calming, after all.
But not all meditation techniques are the same.
Forms of meditation that involve concentration are fine to do before bed. For example, focusing on your body or breathing.
But NSR is different, and the instructions state that you should not do it any later than two hours before bed.
I’ve experimented with this and can confirm that it does prevent me from sleeping. It seems to get me into a state of relaxed alertness. So, although I am calmer after doing NSR, I am also alert.
But sometimes, if I am struggling to get to sleep, I will sit up and do NSR. If I can’t sleep, at least I will get some deep rest from NSR.
But I’ve also discovered something else interesting — NSR can give me lucid dreams.
Sometimes, I will go to sleep normally, but then wake up in the middle of the night and be unable to get back to sleep. I will then do NSR. But once I eventually get back to sleep, sometimes I have a lucid dream.
