Early on in my time on Medium, I happened to read an article saying how we can leave private notes to editors. Even back when I was still using American spellings, I would often leave that same note, minus the bit about American spellings. From the editor's point of view, it's probably reassuring, actually. At least it shows them that you are taking it seriously. But it's also about clearly stating your intentions. Often in life, things go wrong when people don't make it clear what their intentions or requirements are. And if an editor has a problem with it, maybe I'll find a different publication.
