Thanks for reporting back about your assessment, Suzie. I suppose what I would take from that is you felt you had issues worth looking into, but you don't quite fit exact criteria for the label.
When I was assessed, he said I wasn't a typical case, and the diagnosis was really just a "best fit" out of those available. He recognised that I'd been held back in life and would benefit from a diagnosis. Who knows, maybe if I was assessed by the same person that assessed you, I might not get a diagnosis either. Because it is a judgement call on the part of the assessor.
I was prompted to seek assessment by the Jobcentre because they questioned why I had such a bad job history and was refusing to apply for jobs that involved lots of telephone work or customer focus. In the end, the diagnosis got me extra help which got me a part time job that I stuck with for almost 8 years. Beyond that, I try not to let it define me. These days I tend to think more in terms of the specific issues I have, such as sensory sensitivity.
