The failure to console upset people is an interesting one. I console my mum when she's upset. But I once remember babysitting our neighbour's children when I was 18, and the baby boy was crying and I didn't know what to do, so I called my mum over to deal with it.
For me, it's interesting to see undiagnosed autism in my family. My uncle on my mother's side has always seemed rather autistic. He shows no affection whatsoever. Everything is all pure facts and logic, even more so than me. I remember when I was a child, I had a fight with my older brother and I was crying, and my uncle didn't know what to do.
Also, my dad's mother could be brutal with her tongue. She had a tendency to offend people. We used to think it was because she enjoyed annoying people, but in recent years we think it might actually be that she was autistic and had no insight into how her words affected people.
