The sad thing is, there are ad-funded websites that do get millions of hits, but they get them with shitty clickbait. News sites that are optimised for ad revenue are usually really badly written. You get a load of unnecessary waffle interspersed with ads, before you eventually get to the information you were after. Then they give you the bare minimum of that information, which they could have just given you in the title.
