This is a publications for ranting about your opinions, and a lot of people are shocked that someone is ranting about an opinion. I bet you wouldn't be being told off by those same people if you happened to venting an opinion they agree with.
Some people call you a horrible person, when they don't know you. You might help old ladies across the street and volunteer in a homeless shelter the rest of the time. They have no idea. Having an opinion that someone deems offensive is not enough to qualifiy someone as a horrible person. Reserve that label for people who set fire to kittens or toture badgers.
Having said that, you must have known you would get a lot of hate for this. You said you got a lot of hate on Twitter on this topic. Well, I've heard Twitter is the worst for those type of virtue-signalling pile-ons. But perhaps it was a sign of what could happen on here.
But if half the people hate what you wrote, it probably means you're talking about something important.
You have the freedom to say what you want. Other people have the freedom to get enraged by what you said. You have the freedom to tell them anger at you is misplaced if you want to. They have the freedom to call you a horrible person. You have the freedom to ignore them and carry on with your life.
