This reminds me of a time about 14 years ago when a 17-year-old girl joined our team. She was very noisy, and would spend half the day chatting on her phone. Whenever I had to give her work to do, she would sigh loudly like it was a big inconvenience. She was only a temp. One day I said to her, "Okay, you don't have to do the work if you don't want to. You can just go home if you want. But you won't get paid!"

Another time, I called her "childish" and she replied with "Don't call me childish!" I replied with "Well don't act like a child then!" to which she replied again with "Don't call me childish!" We went back and forth like that several times until she eventually screamed like she was having a tantrum.

To be honest, I too was a total nightmare when I had my first job after leaving college. I think it can be a shock going from school or college to a real workplace. Suddenly you have to be sensible all day and actually get stuff done or you risk getting fired. It can be a big wake-up call.
