Unfortunately, anything where you're competing against other people needs to be approached like this. I found it was the same with online dating. When you're up against other people, it's essentially a numbers game. If you just send one or two and then sit back and wait, the odds are stacked against you.

But of course, the goal is to end up with some long term clients, so hopefully the process of applying for lots of jobs is only a temporary one.
