Wales: Like England But Smaller, More Beautiful and With Annoying Bilingual Signs
Cymru: Fel Lloegr Ond Yn Llai, Yn Fwy Hardd a Gydag Arwyddion Dwyieithog
I love Wales. If you’re now thinking, “What is Wales?” I will briefly explain.
It’s a small country joined onto the side of England. It’s part of the UK, which comprises four nations, the other two being Scotland and Northern Ireland. If you’re American, think of these as like your states, but with far more historical significance.
Wales (green in the above picture) seems to have a closer relationship to England (red) than the other two. It got conquered by England earlier than Scotland did, uses English coins and notes as currency*, and often gets combined with England for national statistics. Also, most police forces in England and Wales have policing powers throughout both countries, so they can chase criminals across the border if necessary.
*Scotland and Northern Ireland use the same currency (British Pound Sterling) but have their own style of notes and coins.
