When I look back at the disaster that is my job history, one common theme becomes clear. It was rarely the work itself that was a problem, it was usually trying to cope with being around other people all the time. You can't just walk in, sit down at your desk, and get on with your work. There is the confusion and stress of having to negotiate through the assault course that is interacting with other people.

Years ago, I briefy worked as a postman. I enjoyed delivering mail. But what I really struggled with was being in a sorting office full of noisy people who wouldn't shut up. In the end I was told I was too slow and too quiet. It's such a shame, because I know if I'd had a quiet sorting office all to myself I'd have got the mail sorted in a fraction of the time without the distractions.
