Why Do Crowds of People All Record Big Events on Their Phones?

Smartphones make people stupid.

They cause people to:

  • Take endless photos of themselves pulling silly faces in front of things.
  • Walk along like zombies staring at a rectangle in their hand, oblivious to the real world around them.

But it gets worse when there is a big event, such as the Queen’s coffin being transported through Scotland. Then they all hold their phones up, recording separate videos.

What the hell?

There are professional TV cameras there, in much better positions than any of the crowd. Those cameras will record excellent footage without other people’s heads in the way. That footage is going to be shown on TV and YouTube. You don’t need your own amateur video!

This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So why not just enjoy the moment and see it with your own eyes without having to…
