Did you know that you can change your recommendations under the "Control your recommendations" option (in the menu when you click on your image)? There, you can remove any articles that you don't want affecting your recommendations. What happened to you was you clicked on one article about making money on Medium, so then Medium kept recommending you more, and the more you clicked on them the more it was recommend them.
