You make great points here, Suzie!

A big problem is when we keep things we aren't going to use. Things like books and DVDs take up lots of space, but rarely get repeatedly read or watched.

Many years ago, I went through a phase of buying loads of comedy DVDs. Then after a few years, I realised I had a loads of them that I'd watched multiple times and probably wouldn't watch again. So I took them all to charity shops for other people to enjoy.

When people have Zoom meetings, many of them like to have shelves full of books behind them, like it makes them look more intelligent. But actually, it makes them look like a hoarder. If a book is on a shelf, it means you're not reading it, and nobody else is reading it either. There are more books in the world than anyone could ever read, so why keep ones that you've already read, unless they are reference books that you might want to repeatedly dip into? Nobody ever said on their deathbed, "I wish I'd had more shelves full of books."
